Mountmellick is the third largest town in Laois, (after Portlaoise and Portarlington). It has a population of 3,361 (Census 2002), this growing family town has a powerful community spirit enhancing and preserving the quality of life in Mountmellick. The town is small enough to retain the charms of Irish rural life, while large enough to provide many "urban" services such as transport, education and sports facilities. Mountmellick remains a safe and peaceful place to live.

Mountmellick is an ideal setting for relocation of businesses or families. The town’s central location along the N80 between Portlaoise (6 miles) and Tullamore (14 miles) is within commuting distance of major industrial areas being only 52 miles from Dublin on the N7 and 7 miles from the train stations Portarlington and Portlaoise (incorporating both Southern and Western mainlines).
