Community Based Initiatives for Young People
The Mountmellick Youth Development Centre (MYDC) was established in 1997 and continues to run many programmes for children, young people and their families in the Mountmellick Area.
Working along side the local schools, parents, volunteers, MDA, HSE, DSFA, DJELR and the young people themselves, the staff plan and implement many programmes in the MYDC. Currently there are over 70 families involved in the MYDC
Programmes include:
Early Bird Club

Volunteer Training and Support
Volunteers
Our very dedicated team of Volunteer Homework Helpers are the back bone of the Homework Club. Currently we have 20 volunteers from the community who work on a rota basis for an hour once a week with the children in the Homework Club. There they assist the children with the classwork and act as positive role models. We are always looking for new volunteers so please feel free to contact Anne-Marie in the MDA. You need to be over 18 and no experience necessary. Volunteers receive training throughout the year to support them in their roles.
